(Be)Tween Time is a virtual event series for young people ages 8-13 who want to meet and hang out with other tweens. Our founder, 12-year-old Mott Haven resident Cadence, facilitates discussions and helps to curate events.
Background:
Starting in September 2019, the Middle Grade Book Club met monthly–initially at the Mott Haven library in the South Bronx and then on Zoom from around the country–to discuss books chosen by them, sometimes with the authors who created them, and for two writing workshops with authors.
Amidst the many changes in the world and in our lives over the past year, we wanted to make sure that our book club kept up with those changes. We surveyed the 8-13 year-olds in our community, as well as their parents and caregivers to help us better understand how to serve our community as we move forward. The change to our name and the new monthly events we're scheduling starting in December 2020 reflect that feedback.
