As part of the “Indie Bookstores Give Back on Small Business Saturday” campaign, we're distributing nearly 100 special-edition copies of bestselling author Jason Reynolds’s GHOST to underserved young readers throughout the community. The American Booksellers Association and American Express are working together with Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing to make available 20,000 copies of GHOST, Reynolds’s first book in his New York Times bestselling TRACK series, this holiday season. Earlier this year, Boogie Down Books signed up to work with local schools to give copies of the book to underserved or low-income children in conjunction with Indies First on Small Business Saturday, November 24.
We'll be selecting a maximum of 8 Bronx middle schools to participate in this project. Each selected school will receive at least 12 free copies of GHOST with the option to purchase additional copies at a discount. Each selected school will send 4 students and 1 teacher to the "Ghost Summit" on Tuesday, February 12, for a day of shared reading, discussion, activities, and community-building.
