Books to Kenya

Support Teens & Families in Nairobi

Please join us in helping to build a community library for young people living and attending schools in Nairobi's informal settlements. Through this wishlist, Boogie Down Books is partnering with Kenya Big Picture Learning (KBPL), an organization whose goal is to empower youth and families in marginalized communities through education and opportunity. Books purchased from this wishlist will help to seed a community library and reading center that will benefit approximately 1500 students attending three partner schools by helping to improve students' reading skills and build their love of reading.

The mix of titles on this wishlist was especially curated to provide students with opportunities to see their own experiences, identities, and histories represented while also allowing them to learn about other people, places, and cultures. Many Kenyan students do not have access to books that are not textbooks, so the wishlist titles were selected to promote imagination and exploration. KBPL particularly requested fiction, comic books, and works by African writers, and we can't wait to hear what these young readers think about Jason Reynolds, Elizabeth Acevedo, and Tomi Adeyemi!

Note: We appreciate offers to donate used books, but at this time we are only able to accept books purchased through the wishlist. Thank you for your generosity!
